Proceeded by not one but 2 singles ("Piece Of Me" and "My Beautiful Friends") and a European tour from mid June to early August that included an appearance at Wacken Open Air 2005, Australian combo Doomfoxx made sure their name was edged in people’s minds so the release of their self-titled debut would not go by unnoticed. Centred around original Rose Tattoo guitarist Mick Cocks, Doomfoxx invite you to step onboard a rock ’n roll power train with a sound that honours the Bon Scott heydays of Angus Young and C°. It’s raw, dirty, sexy and gritty and comes highly recommended to anyone who enjoys listening to acts such as Jackyl, Boned, Dirty Looks, Rhino Bucket, Cherry Street or Broken Teeth. Mister Cocks along with fellow six stringer Dave Thomas deliver a genuine avalanche of riffs and hooks while bassist Archi and skin basher Jase Burec lay down the perfect backbone for the whiskey-roached vocals of Stuart McKie to top things off. For the most part this is a big rock record but the band allows the listener to catch his breath on the emotionally charged "My Beautiful Friends" but not without their tongues firmly in cheek. Pay close attention to the lyrics of this cut and you’ll see what I mean. Of the take no prisoners rock ’n roll tunes I put the riff-laden and seriously infectious "Piece Of Me", the big stomp of "Boyfriend", the up tempo "Abandon All Hope" and the good time feel of "Rock N Roll Show" forward as prime cuts. The guys have already lined up a second visit to European shores to support this here release and that includes a date at the "Spirit of 66" in Verviers on the 29th of this month. So if you’re in the neighbourhood and up for some kick ass live action you know where the go! (PS) |
