Whenever we get the chance to talk about Rock ’n’ Roll elements, the purity and straightforwardness of this sinful genre, it all ends up about the fuckin’ same ol’ few-chord mid-tempo ’raw’ tracks and onstage endless adrenaline and sweat. You can search in the very depths of your favorite Rock/Metal subgenre but when it comes to e.g. AC/DC, Motorhead and The Ramones there so little stuff to chat on. It’s only the beer talkin’ in these situations. Even if this quintet originates from Australia, it seems that the Germans and mid Europe - at first - have accepted them with more than a welcome. A two month tour in summer 2005 throughout Germany, France, Austria and France (plus supported Rose Tattoo on the European "Aussie Invasion" tour) and a participation in this year’s installment of Wacken Open Air festival is not to be taken less than seriously. Then, it’s Armageddon Music that pulls the strings of promotion for the band so a first deal of recognition in the aforementioned region(s) is obvious. And all this after only two CD singles - prior to the release featured here - named "Piece Of Me" (2005) and "My Beautiful Friends" (2005). Both cuts are included in this effort so you don’t have to miss anything.
Music-related: Mick Cocks (ex-Rose Tattoo, ex-Heaven) marks the first key in this chain. Fuzzy, dirty, mean and a rebel. Dave Thomas is in the same vein, but it’s always the experience that comes first, huh? A frenzied booze-full duet, capable of setting the neighborhood on fire on a silent summer night. Tons of slide solos, wah wahs and riffing, the ’ghosts’ of The Rolling Stones, Guns ’n’ Roses (or even Velvet Revolver?) and (of course) ’dirty’ AC/DC spread all over and the whisky pours in. The Burec/Archie rhythm section features simplicity as their lethal weapon ("always play the least you can afford, so as to handle being drunk on stage" a wise old friend of mine once said) while Stuart McKie endorses the album with his filthy, intoxicated throat to the likes of Michael Monroe, Billy Idol or Glenn Danzig (??).
The cuts themselves are what someone would expect from this kind of style. Played 1,000,000 times before, the same good ol’ shit, a ’must’ for any Rock party.

If I speak to you very about an Australian group practising hard rock bluesy péchu with a singer of Scottish origin, which does it act? AC/DC? Not! Pink Tatoo? Either! Who thus then? But Doomfoxx, of course!
This group of the country of the marsupials was rested by a former guitarist of Pink Tatoo. The style of Doomfoxx remains rather close to that of the latter. There is thus business with a pure group of Australian rock'n'roll of Scottish ascent, which asserts the heritage of AC/DC, Pink Tatoo and other The Angels. I discovered them in Wacken 2005, where they had the characteristic to play four times in three days: initially under the tent of Wet Training course, where they were envisaged in the beginning, then on the Jim Beam Stage (unepetite scene outside the enclosure of the festival), on the Party Training course where they replaced with the foot raised Hanoi Rocks, and finally, for swabbed, in space backstage where they played a showcase of four pieces after their press conference! As much to say there that one deals with tested group which knows what to hold a scene wants to say and which gives itself à.fond. And on album, that is worth also the turning. It is traditional, but very effective. Doomfoxx will fill ease the nostalgic ones which recovered yet from not died from Good Scott, because their vocalist has a stamp extremely similar to that of the former singer of AC/DC. In fact, there is not large thing moreover to say some: AC/DC is the greatest group of rock' roll of the world, and everyone connait their style, which particularly did not move since 1974. To say that the music of Doomfoxx approaches that of their famous compatriots should be enough to give an idea of it what this album resembles. The aspect bluesy is marked even more there. Their music is however a little more calms that and Doomfoxx seems less inspired by Chuck Berry than are to it the Young brothers. One feels sometimes also influences of Rolling Stones which point Ci from there. Remain that the Australian ones practise a good rock' roll, very traditional, but of quality. The guitarists are excellent, the singer also, and the twelve songs which make the album make well type foot. It is without much claim, but it is a good assured moment. They could just have taken another small pocket that that one, which is rather ridiculous and especially makes think of a small pocket of Bang Tango at the end of the Eighties. But at least, that illustrates well the spirit "sex and rock' roll" of the group!

Here thus new come on the scene from the hardware rock' N roll, it names Doomfoxx! Here not of ornament, that balances dry on the level of the riffs, it is 100% energy! Large rock'n'roll filled of sweat in its simpler expression. Moreover we are not there to make in lace, one wants rock'n'roll, large rock'n'roll and well Doomfoxx offers it to you! The influences are smelled very well, by moment that lorgne really towards this famous Australien group with the 4 letters, as of Pink Tattoo (moreover the beater has the logo of Pink Tattoo on its large case!). Vocally Stuart McKie approaches the voice of Guido Feldhausen (Gun Barrel). That locates you in the style which they play. Here thus 44 mn of quite greasy rock'n'roll which I will try to decipher to you:
Pure Platinium , piece with the short but very effective riffs.
Piece of me , intro with the AC/DC (it' S long way...), the rhythmic one is omnipresent, of the short riffs, a refrain very involving, a very good piece.
Look my No hands , starts to 100 per hour way Pink Tattoo, a super piece very rock' N roll, that will heat in the thatched cottages me I says it to you!!!
Boyfriend , that starts with low, piece which dissociates precedents, that in its composition. One has to make earlier with a rock'n'roll like that of Hell City Glamour. In short a change which is sympathetic, that proves to us that they can play several styles of rock'n'roll. My Beautiful friends is a ballade very sympathetic accoustic. Schoolboy adonis gives us in the right way of the rock'n'roll, piece of a good gauge, at the too endiablé rate/rhythm but hyper involving and "Pink Tattooien", once more this combo makes fly. Ginger Rose the semi-tempo which is required. And always this "greasy" sound well, once again a good piece. Sweetheart of the troops makes me think a little of seeing even much in Angel City..., with this one the level does not lower, doomfoxx continuous to make fly! Drugs accelerates rate, without falling into a beachcomber from riffs but the spirit rock' N roll is well there! Abandon all hope it is 2mn31 of rock'n'roll basic good oiled at speed large V, piece sympathetic which on scene must all tear off in front of him! Girls like you , is started in a superb manner, guitar alone with Stuart McKie, this piece east can be that which is most original in this album. In all cases it is very good! Rock' N roll show is a piece sympathetic super semi-tempo with an accompaniment with the harmonica on the end, a good manners to close this excellent album which I recommend warmly has all those which like the rock'n'roll burné!! Doomfoxx starts in a very good manners its incursion into the world of rock' N roll!

Stuart McKie

Stuart McKie

Stu McKieStuart McKie, born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, emigrated to Perth, Western Australia at a young age, but holds his Scottish roots close to his heart. Singing in pubs and clubs, he was belting out tunes by the Faces and the Rolling Stones, his passion and power is undeniable, now with a reputation as one of the best front-men in the business.

Stuart hooked up with drummer Jase Burec in Sydney forming Circle and with ex-pat Sydney muso Dave Thomas in New York started another musical collaboration along with Burec creating the nucleus of Doomfoxx. Ask Stuart what Doomfoxx is like? With a cheeky smile he'll say, "It's like Formula One racing in the dark".

Dave Thomas

Dave Thomas

DaveDave Thomas, one of the twin-towers of rock, had been playing in several local bands before deciding to try his luck overseas and he met McKie in New York club named Scrap Bar.

An immediate bond was formed and Dave, originally from Brooklyn, not the New York borough, but a haven an hour north of Sydney on the Hawkesbury river estuary, was exposed to 60s soul music and rock ‘n’ roll and at 6’4’’ holds an impressive stature and plays a damn-fine Gretsch White Falcon, when not riffing away on a custom Les Paul.

Woody Greenwood

Woody Greenwood

WoodieThe newest member of this rocking quintet, Woody became aware that Doomfoxx were looking for new guitarist and made contact via Doomfoxx’s My Space site. An audition soon followed and when Woody walked into the rehearsal room and started playing the songs note perfect, the boys knew instinctively they had their man.

Woody had been playing with the Volts, an inner Sydney band and was well aware of Doomfoxx “I was a fan of the band” he said, “So it is an amazing opportunity to be part of it now”. Part of it he is and Woody wails away on his Firebird creating the twin guitar attack with Dave Thomas.

Archi Read

Archi Read

Archi Read Archi, from Sydney’s North Shore only picked up a bass guitar in his late teens and with some school friends he formed the glam rock band Hell City Glamours and quickly developed a solid live following and was soon the most talked about bass player around town.

The second half of the twin-towers of rock, Archi’s stature, both physical and musical is not to be denied. With Burec he completes what is a formidable rhythm section and his full-on attack and energetic live performance is testament to his passion and belief in what he does.

Jase Burec

Jase Burec

Jase BurecThe engine room controller, Jase hails from the outer suburbs of Sydney and all he wanted to do since he was 9 years old is play drums in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Quietly spoken, with a charming smile, it’s the thunder on the stage that defines Jase and sets up the driving platform for Doomfoxx.

Forming Circle with McKie, the close bond between the two, like brothers, is easily recognised and while the flamboyance of front-man McKie captures the eye, it’s the solid rock beat of Burec and his undeniable commitment to his craft that secures his status.
