Doomfoxx is an Australian band that takes you on a trip through rock and roll country. We are talking about their debut album here, which was preceded a couple of months ago by two singles ('Piece Of Me' en 'My Beautiful Friends'). If you would have to define the sound of this band you pretty soon end up with AC/DC in the Bon Scott era (singer Stuart McKie sounds a lot like the legend), though they try to give an own ring to it. Last summer the band toured Europe for the first time, with as highlight their gig at Wacken Open Air. If I was asked to filter out the best tracks on the album I would go for the tasty 'Piece Of Me', the quiet and bluesy tune 'My Beautiful Friends', the Motörhead like 'Abandon All Hope' and 'Schoolboy Adonis' with its catchy guitar solo. I think this lot will do best at small stages in small, overcrowded clubs, and they made just the right record for this. According to some editor of the prestigious American Billboard Magazine this record is "The Album Of The Year". Well, I can't say I am quite as excited, but people who love pure and hard rock 'n roll should give Doomfoxx a try. Score: 73/100

Don’t be fooled by the nice tasty ass on the cover of the Cd, this Is real music, I’m not starting to review my porn collection, although if you ask so I could upload some of my sexy titles on certain FTP server. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a musical genius to know that there’s not much Doom Metal involved in this album, so if you bought, downloaded or borrowed this album thinking that you’ll get the first album of Porn Doom Metal, you got it all wrong pal. To alleviate everybody’s curiosity, Doomfoxx plays sleazy Hard Rock with a lot of attitude. The sound of Doomfoxx is groovy and has a lot of catchy melodies, the attitude is very eighties and "dirty-street" if you know what I’m mean. According to their bio, the band is composed by a whisky-roached Scottish singer, a former member of the Great Moscow Circus, a part-time gigolo, a young upstart and an Australian Rock legend. I’ll put it simple for all of you, if you like Hard Rock, you’ll probably like this album, no cheese, no spandex, no sissy lyrics, no hairspray, probably these guys would punch in the face any member of Stryper or Dokken in any case. Almost all songs are great, but there’s definitively some that stand up from the rest like "Piece Of Me", "Look Ma No Hands", "My Beautiful Friends", "Drugs" and "Sweetheart Of The Troops". One of the best assets of the band is the raspy vocals of Stuart Mckie, he reminds me of the deceased Bon Scott from AC/DC at times. This album is groovy and real fun to listen to, it makes you want to grab a beer , invite some friends over and have a nice party (the sluts and drugs are optional depending on your tastes). Anyone in the mood for some good ‘Ol Rock N’ Roll should grab this immediately. Ah, by the way, you’re all invited to my house tonight. Link: http://www.doomfoxx.com |

Proceeded by not one but 2 singles ("Piece Of Me" and "My Beautiful Friends") and a European tour from mid June to early August that included an appearance at Wacken Open Air 2005, Australian combo Doomfoxx made sure their name was edged in people’s minds so the release of their self-titled debut would not go by unnoticed. Centred around original Rose Tattoo guitarist Mick Cocks, Doomfoxx invite you to step onboard a rock ’n roll power train with a sound that honours the Bon Scott heydays of Angus Young and C°. It’s raw, dirty, sexy and gritty and comes highly recommended to anyone who enjoys listening to acts such as Jackyl, Boned, Dirty Looks, Rhino Bucket, Cherry Street or Broken Teeth. Mister Cocks along with fellow six stringer Dave Thomas deliver a genuine avalanche of riffs and hooks while bassist Archi and skin basher Jase Burec lay down the perfect backbone for the whiskey-roached vocals of Stuart McKie to top things off. For the most part this is a big rock record but the band allows the listener to catch his breath on the emotionally charged "My Beautiful Friends" but not without their tongues firmly in cheek. Pay close attention to the lyrics of this cut and you’ll see what I mean. Of the take no prisoners rock ’n roll tunes I put the riff-laden and seriously infectious "Piece Of Me", the big stomp of "Boyfriend", the up tempo "Abandon All Hope" and the good time feel of "Rock N Roll Show" forward as prime cuts. The guys have already lined up a second visit to European shores to support this here release and that includes a date at the "Spirit of 66" in Verviers on the 29th of this month. So if you’re in the neighbourhood and up for some kick ass live action you know where the go! (PS) |

DoomFoxx is an uprising sleaze rock'n'roll band with a lot of punk rock influences. Their debut album "DoomFoxx" promises straight sleaze Rock 'N' Roll with strong riffs, guitar solo’s perfectly matching the bands style and a deep, "dirty" voice, a necessity for their orientation. "Pure Platinum" is the opening track, giving the audience a glimse of the bands style, first taste of what is to come. Followed by "Piece of me", good song with a strong Cult band feeling. Along with those two, one will notice "Look Ma No Hands", "Sweetheart of the Troops" and "Girls like you". Stuart McKie’s voice may sound in several occasions like Cult’s Ian Astbury and Ac/Dc’s Brian Johnson, but clearly quality, perfect though for the bands image and target group. The album numbers 12 tracks, full of good-old sleeze R&R guitars, dirty vocals, pure hard street rock. Friends of the kind, prepare to be thrilled!... Harrris Bakopoulos |
